The Silver Greys
A Civilian-Military Domestic Spy Unit who's mission was to hunt down, arrest, imprison, and in many cases execute America's 1st Domestic Enemy. This enemy of seditious "citizens", in 1775-1783, would not support America. They rejected "Independence and the rebellion" in forming a more perfect union & Government of the People, by the People, and for the People. This enemy were "Loyalists" to the English King & Crown. The tyrannical King George was accompanied by his "Loyal Subjects" who would secretly stay in America trying to subvert the "American Rebellion" - The Silver Greys were formed to STOP THEM.

Key Figures & Ties

The Silver Greys were formed under the Command of Asa Douglas. This appointment was made at New York's Provincial Congress, 2nd Session, 26 May 1775. After the Committees of Safety, and Commission for Detecting & Defeating Conspiracies were formalized in 1776 - the committees were led by powerful figures like; John Jay, Egbert Benson, Nathaniel Sackett, and many close to Rhinebeck, NY in the Hudson River Valley. George Washington knew the civilian population and their security was of vital importance in advancing the American Cause. As the war progressed, the Hudson Valley would become his home away from home - leading Intelligence Operations there, along with Continental Military Operations.

"Washington bemoaned that until domestic threatshad been subverted, the American cause lay in peril. Urging New York to mobilize, thegeneral offered his aid to defeat such an elusive enemy since he knew disaffectionappeared in many forms."

Asa Douglas (1713 - 1792)

The Leader of the Silver Greys, Asa was Appointed Commander on May 26, 1775. Asa received compensation and broad powers to lead his Company and “reward them with money or provisions, as they shall think meet, and to appoint him the commander of such forces.”

Peter Schultz (1750-1826)

Lieutenant, Rhinebeck Precinct - Dutchess & Westchester counties
Leader of the Rhinebeck Precinct & Pledge Oath to America in 1775. Peter determined the threats of those "fellow citizens" who did not sign the Oath were of most concern. He personally knew that these "disaffected" posed the greatest danger to his family and true friends. He joined a Company of Silver Greys and took the fight directly to the Domestic Enemy.

Not hailed enough in American Revolutionary history! These Native Americans understood the reward of Independence from England. Freedom. They chose to remain self reliant in the Land of their forefathers - choosing the American ideal for life. They embraced growing & changing with cultural integration, property rights negotiations, dealing with explosive population growth, and speaking several languages. These were highly educated men & women, and converts to Christ - the Living God for all Mankind, Races, and Nations. Freedom came to them, but not in this world. Both these GREAT men, Father & Son, would lay down their lives - together - for their American Friends & Brothers; paying the ultimate price & sacrifice.

Gen. Washington & Asa


Washington corresponded with Asa in serious matters of senior military leadership, and how to best fight the Enemy. Asa wrote directly to Washington about Tory advances in New York & Canada, and how best to target them. He even reported to Washington that one of his top General's was a traitor! Asa's early Intelligence briefing to Washington in 1776 likely set in motion many Military attacks and Clandestine Operations.
